This sealed drag system operates by drawing together matched conical elements with spring tension to produce a reel that is more responsive to light drag settings. This conical shape, rather that disk shape has a US Patent. Their Torrington zero lash, instant engagement roller clutch rivals the pawl type clutch system.
Lamson manufactures their own line of Saltwater Fly Fishing Reels. The ULA Force Saltwater Spey will take the abuse of salt, sand, boat decks or river rocks. Machined in the U.S., this model is built as a precision fully functional Saltwater Reel.
The ULA P series said to be the lightest machined Lamson fly reel in the world today. It has a curved shape to improve the structural integrity of this fly reel. The click pawl drag system minimizes the weight of this reel.
